Merry & Bright Holiday Concert set for December 10

The Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra’s annual holiday concert, Merry & Bright, will be held Sunday afternoon, December 10th, at 3:30 pm at Bridge View Center. The orchestra will perform such favorites as: “Sleigh Ride”, “With the Voice of Joy and Praise”, and “Waltz of the Flowers”, as well as standards such as “O Holy Night”, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and “Hallelujah Chorus”, to name just a few. Former Ottumwa student Madalynn (McKelvey) Baez will be our featured soprano soloist.

Following the concert, a reception of hot chocolate and cookies will be served in the theater lobby.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door and can be purchased at Bridge View Center (stop by in person to avoid online fees) or order online at www.bridgeviewcenter.com. Kids admission is free.

Madalynn Baez, soprano, is an avid musician and multifaceted professional, acclaimed for her dedication, versatility, and adaptability. She was born and raised in Ottumwa, IA, and is a proud graduate of Wartburg College, where she studied Engineering Science and Mathematics and was a leader in the internationally acclaimed Wartburg Choir, singing principal roles in several operas. Madalynn is a chorister and member of the board for Nova Singers (Galesburg, IL), and has performed roles, scenes, and oratorio with the Wartburg Community Symphony, Galesburg Community Symphony, Opera Quad Cities, and Quad City Music Guild. Madalynn is currently studying for her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at North Park University, Chicago.

The remainder of the 2023-2024 Season promises to be an exhilarating one. OSO Board President, Dennis Willhoit, invites attendees and symphony patrons to “set sail on this extraordinary musical journey. Dates are as follows:

– March 9: Old World – New World (also featuring the winner of our Young Artist Competition)
– May 4: Jazz in America
– June 9: Music on the Green
