Basic Conducting Concepts (9:00 AM - 11:00)
- Physical Presence on the Podium
- Functions of Joints
- Gestural Patterns
- Moving Through Space
- Divisions of Responsibility (right and left arm)
- Preparatory Gestures
- Fermata Preparations and Releases
- Meter Exercises (Acceleration-Deceleration)
Analysis, Score Preparation, Rehearsal Pacing (11:00-noon)
Repertoire
- Simple Sarabande (Simple Symphony) – Benjamin Britten
- Theme and Variations (from “Vier Kleine Stücke”) – Karel Husa
Lunch Break – Indian Hills Dining Hall (meal ticket provided)
Individual Podium Time with Reinforcing Critiques (12:45 – 5:00 pm)
Lab Orchestra
A small lab orchestra will be present. If you play an instrument, you are encouraged to bring it and participate in the Lab Orchestra.
IMPORTANT: All participants should bring a baton and personal scores for note-taking. If you do not have access the scores referenced above, please email theottumwasymphonyorchestra@gmail.com and we will ensure you receive what you need. Dress comfortably for conducting movements and standing in front of the orchestra. Handouts will be provided to everyone.
